Hi Sam! Here's a review of the past lesson (June 27) and what to practice for the next lesson...

What we covered:

Below are some of the things we discussed:

1) Theory/Glossary:

  • How fingers are numbered ("fingering")
  • R.H. = Right Hand; L.H. = Left Hand
  • Metronome - plays beats per minute
  • p (piano), mp (mezzo piano), mf (mezzo forte), f (forte)
  • crescendo (gradually get louder), decrescendo (gradually get softer)
  • Accent (sudden emphasis)
  • Quarter Note, Half Note, Whole Note, dotted half note
  • Stem, Note Head
  • Cut off
  • Measure
  • Quarter Rest, Half Rest, Whole Rest

What to practice:

1) Technique:

  • Remember your fingers are numbered, with thumbs being 1's to the pinkies being 5's.
  • Remember to curve your fingers
  • Fingertips should be off the keys! (except for the ones that are playing in the moment)
2) Method:

  • Lesson Book
    • pages 24 and 25: listen to 8 metronome beats, then play
    • Ode to Joy
3) Repertoire/Composition:

4) Listening:

  • Listen to "Ode to Joy" on your Audio Page.
5) Internet:

  • Play games 30 and 32.
See you at your next lesson!   :)
